London’s female-founded food brand Soul Kitchen has launched two single-serve instant soups designed
for modern work and travel environments. Super Greens blends broccoli, leek and spinach. Lion’s Mane
Mushroom with Vitamin B12 adds thyme and black pepper. Both sit in the new Soul Kitchen Plus+ range
and are built for employers, caterers and retailers who want food that is fast, credible and clean label.
Each 20 g sachet is made in the UK at a SALSA-approved site and is ready with hot water in under three
minutes. Recipes use gently dehydrated vegetable powders, herbs and spices, with no gums, no
emulsifiers, no palm oil and no artificial flavourings. The format is ambient, portion-controlled and
kettle-friendly, which reduces equipment needs and helps cut waste in offices, co-working, micro-markets,
vending and travel. The launch aligns with the ongoing shift to shorter lunch breaks in Britain, where the
main lunch break averages about 33 minutes.
Founder, Bella Acland says: “Workplaces want better food that is effortless to run. We designed Plus+ so
a three minute bowl can still be real food. The ingredients are simple, the nutrition is purposeful and the
format works anywhere from a desk to a depot.”
For HR and facilities teams, the products fit directly into wellbeing and productivity agendas. Most UK
organisations now take action on health and wellbeing, and more than half have a standalone strategy,
with senior leadership attention rising. Employers cite better health, engagement and lower absence as
key returns. Average sickness absence has increased to 9.4 days per employee per year, which keeps cost-
effective, accessible nourishment in scope for benefits leads.
For buyers, mushrooms are no longer niche. Functional mushrooms are entering everyday formats
across UK retail and foodservice, and the UK functional mushroom market reached an estimated 1.85
billion US dollars in 2024, with a projected 11.5 percent annual growth to 2032. The UK soups category
is also set for steady value growth through 2035, creating room for premium clean label propositions in
ambient convenience.
On nutrition, Super Greens delivers 4.6g protein per serving. And the mushroom blend offers 100 percent
of the daily Nutrient Reference Value for Vitamin B12, a nutrient plant-forward eaters often plan for. UK
labelling uses NRVs for vitamins and minerals, which guide clear on-pack communication for single-
serve products.
Eiméar Sutton, Head of Nutrition at BIOVIT and Registered Nutritionist, says: “BIOVIT’s vitamin B12
and vitamin D are derived from mushrooms and remain within a food matrix, rather than being isolated
or synthetically produced. Research shows that the other components of a food matrix, such as bioactive
compounds and phytonutrients, can work synergistically to enhance nutrient absorption and provide
additional health benefits.”
Edward Taylor, Founder of Purition and Soul Kitchen’s UK manufacturing partner, says: “The brief was
simple. Prove convenience and integrity can live in the same cup. Every ingredient has a job. If it does
not add flavour or function, it is not in.”
Soul Kitchen Plus+ soups are available to purchase today, from the Soul Kitchen online store.
The range comes in cases of 12 with an RRP from £1.79 per sachet with distribution via CLF, SUMA,
Delicious Ideas and Holleys Fine Food. Initial listings include more than 100 independent retailers such
as Earthfare in Glastonbury, The General Store in Manchester and Village Whole Foods in Clapham,
with expansion into travel retail via Eurostar and GWR. The format also aligns with UK vending and
automated retail trends, where 2024 product revenue rose and micro-markets and cashless systems
continued to grow as operators diversified beyond traditional Business and Industry sites.
Bella adds: “Food at work should be simple to run and good for people. Plus+ is about raising the bar
on hot snacks so they actually earn their place in a wellbeing plan or a P&L.”
