AUSVEG has proudly signed on as a Platinum Sustaining Partner of the World Potato Congress (WPC), reaffirming its commitment to representing Australia’s potato industry on the global stage. This partnership strengthens AUSVEG’s role as the Peak Industry Body for Australia’s potato, vegetable, and onion growers, driving global collaboration and innovation.
With over 3,600 producers contributing $5.7 billion annually in farmgate value—including $1.1 billion from 1.5 million tonnes of potatoes—potatoes are Australia’s top vegetable crop. As the only national grower-owned body advocating for this sector, AUSVEG continues to play a leading role in agricultural advancement.
This WPC partnership aligns with AUSVEG’s mission to support growers through advocacy, R&D extension, trade development, and biosecurity preparedness. By fostering the exchange of international best practices, the collaboration ensures Australian growers benefit from global innovation—and vice versa.
Ahead of the 13th World Potato Congress in 2026 in Kenya, this partnership will facilitate knowledge sharing and support for delegates from Global South countries, promoting food security and sector growth worldwide.
AUSVEG CEO Michael Coote highlighted the value of this partnership:
“We are proud to join the World Potato Congress as a Platinum Partner, ensuring Australian growers benefit from global insights while showcasing world-class local practices.”
World Potato Congress President Peter VanderZaag added:
“AUSVEG’s support links Australian growers to the international potato community and helps enable attendance from regions where potatoes are vital to development.”
AUSVEG also partners with the International Fresh Produce Association Australia-New Zealand (IFPA-ANZ) to co-host Hort Connections, the largest horticultural conference in the Southern Hemisphere.
With this strategic alignment, AUSVEG and the World Potato Congress aim to promote sustainable growth, innovation, and international collaboration in the global potato sector.
