Calbee, Inc. today announced the return of its regional specialty “Aomori Potato Chips, Dashi Salt Flavor,” made with 100% potatoes grown in Yokohama, Aomori Prefecture. Developed in partnership with the Towada Oirase Agricultural Cooperative, the chips will be available in limited quantities across six Tohoku prefectures starting August 25, 2025.
The product combines the rich taste of locally grown potatoes with a savory kelp-based seasoning, highlighting the quality of Aomori’s harvest. Packaging features local farmers and a map silhouette of Aomori Prefecture, emphasizing the product’s regional identity.
This launch builds on Calbee’s long-term collaboration with Aomori potato growers. Previous limited editions, including the Towada Garlic and Dashi Salt flavors, were well received by both consumers and producers. The initiative supports Calbee’s efforts to expand potato cultivation beyond Hokkaido while promoting local agriculture.
“Yokohama Town has supplied potatoes to Calbee for over 40 years,” said a local producer. “Our climate produces potatoes with a unique depth of flavor, and we are proud to share them again this year.”
