Calbee Co., Ltd will release “Potato Chips Ultra Thin Slice Sour Cream and Onion Flavor” from its “Potato Chips Ultra Thin Slice” series, which features potatoes sliced to the thinnest possible thickness for a light and crisp texture, at convenience stores nationwide for a limited time starting May 4th, 2026 (Monday). It will be available at stores other than convenience stores for a limited time starting May 25th, 2026 (Monday).
“Potato Chips Ultra Thin Slice” are light and crispy potato chips made using Calbee’s unique method to slice potatoes to the thinnest possible thickness and fry them in sunflower oil. They were first launched in 2020 as “Shin Potato,” Calbee’s thinnest potato chips. Incorporating our first-ever frying technology and using 100% sunflower oil, we spent six years and hundreds of prototypes to maximize the thinness, achieving the small size and light texture. In 2024, to allow more customers to enjoy them, we rebranded them as “Potato Chips Ultra Thin Slice.” Positioned as a new brand within the long-loved “Calbee Potato Chips” series, the product name was changed to clearly indicate its features. Since the rebranding, the classic “Special Salt Flavor” has been very well received by customers.
The “Sour Cream & Onion” flavor was released for a limited time in February 2025 and was well-received for its balanced combination of sour cream’s tanginess and onion’s sweetness. This time, while maintaining the balance with the onion, we’ve further enhanced the richness and tanginess of the sour cream, and added garlic as a secret ingredient to create an addictive flavor. We hope you’ll enjoy this refreshing taste that you’ll want to keep eating as the weather gets warmer.

● “Potato Chips Ultra Thin Slice” are potato chips with a light texture, made using Calbee’s unique method to slice potatoes to the thinnest possible thickness and fry them in sunflower oil. They are our thinnest potato chips, with the thickness of the slices before frying being about half that of “Kataage Potato” chips.
